The Word of God Lights Our Way

In the Bible we find our Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth. It is the story of our brokenness and God's perfect remedy in Christ. It is the final authority for all faith and practice. It claims to be God's inspired Word and we have found it to be a treasure of wisdom and counsel for successful living.

Our Future

This is our future in the coming year: We want everyone who walks into our worship service to encounter our amazing God through the way we praise Him in blended worship music and passionate teaching from His revelation, the Bible. We want to expand our youth and student ministry by inviting college trained students to serve as interns under our leadership. We want to pour energy into helping the people in our community by expanding our ministries like "Grief-Share", ESL classes, home Bible studies, food pantries or clothing closets, and a deacon fund for those who need financial help and counsel. We want each disciple to be able to intentionally grow to the next level of spiritual maturity. We want members to be ministers who use their gifts to contribute to the health of the church body. We want each learner to someday be a leader who mentors others. We want everyone to have the privilege of hearing the Gospel presented in a clear way with an invitation to respond.

Our Church History

A little over 65 years ago, a small group of families with a common heritage envisioned a church in this area that aligned itself with the Evangelical Free Church of America. On April 15, 1951, in River Edge, the first meeting was held in the American Legion Hall. They incorporated later that year in Cresskill with a membership of 34.

They purchased the present property in 1952 and dedicated a building in April, 1954. The present sanctuary was completed in 1961, and the gym/educational wing came in 1968 with a congregation that grew to over 300 people The gym has always been a favorite for Vacation Bible School, children and youth activities and educational classes for Bible study and English as a second language.

Presently, the building is being shared with a Korean Church as well as being used by sport and educational outreaches into our community.

Reflecting God's Love Through Community

Christ spent his time among people from all walks of life; teaching, lifting them up and showing them the Father's love. We aim to do the same each and every day at Northern Valley Evangelical Free Church.

"So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God's household, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit."     Ephesians 2:19-22
